1.6.2. Small-sized spare wheel

GENERAL INFORMATION

Audi-Kupe and Quattro

The small-sized spare wheel is located on the left side of a luggage carrier. It is closed and keeps by means of the plastic screw with a knurled head.

To remove a casing from a spare wheel, be taken by the edge of a casing behind a wheel by one hand and by an opening in the center of a casing other hand. Evenly remove a casing two hands.

Audi 1986-1989 models of year:

For cars without ABS and without all-wheel drive: As this wheel is less by the sizes, than a standard wheel, the gap between the road and the bottom of the car decreases approximately by 30 mm. Try not to go through the acting objects and do not come around on an automatic wash of machines at the established spare wheel not to receive injuries.

Prevention

Bolts of fastening of a spare wheel always should be twisted reliably. Not fixed cannot store a spare wheel in a luggage carrier at all. It can lead to injuries of passengers in case of accident.

Periodically check pressure in the tire of a spare wheel (it has to equal 60 psi or to 4.2 bars) that it was ready to use.

When using a small-sized spare wheel pay attention to the next moments:

 – after installation of a small-sized spare wheel, it is necessary to check pressure in the tire and if it is necessary, to pump up the tire up to the pressure of 60 psi/4.2 of bar;
 – the most permissible load is noted on lateral face of the tire of a spare wheel and should not be exceeded;
 – the spare wheel should be returned into place to a luggage carrier right after repair or replacement of a standard wheel;
 – as the small-sized spare wheel was developed especially for the Audi cars, it should not be used on other cars. Similarly, small-sized spare wheels of other cars should not be established on your car;
 – the small-sized tire cannot be put on a standard wheel, and also standard tires, winter tires, caps of wheels or finishing rings should not be put on a small-sized spare wheel. If you try to make a similar attempt, you can damage these or other elements of the car.

Prevention

The small-sized spare wheel is intended only for temporary use about what the corresponding marks in its side surface are made.

Long operation of a small-sized spare wheel can lead to an exit it out of operation, to controllability loss by the car and it is possible to injuries for passengers.

Do not establish winter chains on a small-sized spare wheel. As the tire of a spare wheel of the smaller size, than usual, a chain will reliably not keep and can damage the car. You can lose a chain, as well as driving.

In case at you lowers a forward wheel in conditions when application of winter chains is necessary, remove the intact back wheel on the same party of the car and establish a small-sized spare wheel on its place. Then remove the damaged forward wheel, remove chains and establish them on the removed back wheel before establishing it to the place of forward. Check and adjust pressure in tires.
Prevention

You do not go with a speed more, than 80 km/h at the established small-sized spare wheel. Also, try to avoid bystry dispersal, sharp braking and abrupt turns not to lose driving.

Never use two or more small-sized spare wheels at the same time.
